10 Fun Summer Outdoor Activities

Summer is my FAVORITE season!!! I LOVE SUMMER!!! I’m like a little kid. I used to love having my three older kids home all summer and get to watch them play and grow and probably fight, but summer was always a precious time with them. I hated to see it go. This summer is going to look a little different, however, that doesn’t mean that those precious moments have to! A lot of my favorite memories with my kiddos are outside, anyway! So before we cry over the things we can’t do, I wanted to share with you my top 10 favorite outdoor summer activities for the whole family!

School’s out for summer….

  • Berry Picking!!!
    • I LOVE fresh berries and being able to pick yourself is just an extra fun bonus! Getting to meet the farmers and pick the berries myself gives me a whole new appreciation for all the work that goes into farming!
    • The little U-Pick farms are becoming really popular and popping up everywhere! I’m sure that there is a small U-Pick farm near you!!!:)
The girls are so tiny here!!!! *LOTS of tears*
  • S’MORES!!!!
    • My love for s’mores is very well known around the farm, but I’m not the only one. Jillian loves her s’mores, too:) I told how we made our DIY tabletop s’mores station here!
    • Of course, this is an activity that you’ll need to be there for. I don’t recommend letting the kids deal with anything flammable without supervision.
Jill loves her s’mores! My DIY for our s’mores station is here!
  • Kayaking!!
    • Lots of national/state parks will be opening up soon! Go find your local ones here!
    • I really am an outdoorsy gal at heart, and kayaking is one of my favorite summer pastimes! I always just feel more connected to the earth on the water.
    • This one can be a great summer date night as well!! If you’re into that sorta thing anyway;)
I love kayaking, but I especially love doing it with him:)
  • TIE-DYING!!!
    • We all tie-dyed inside on Easter since it was still cold, but this is a GREAT outdoor activity!!! It will keep the kids entertained for hours and leaves them with a really cool art project to show off afterwards:)
    • I ordered the girls a big tie-dying kit from Amazon. It came in its own plastic container for easy storage/clean up, too!

  • Go for ice cream!
    • Maybe not the healthiest but….ice cream makes everything sweeter, and summer isn’t truly summer without a big scoop of strawberry, right??!!;)
    • I know that this photo is indoors, but there are many walk up ice cream spots that will be the PERFECT mid-afternoon entertainment for the kiddos:)
S’mores milkshake?! YES PLEASE!!!
  • Outdoor Equipment like swings!!!
    • We got this huge spider web swing for the girls last summer, and as you can see, it ended up being fun for more than just the girls;)
    • The girls spend HOURS on this swing! They come up with game after game to play involving the swing. It makes this momma so happy to see them using their imaginations:)

These next few might not be for the kids….;)

Me and Laurie at one of our favorites, 400 Mile Yard Sale!:)
  • Farmers Markets!!
    • Again, I love fresh produce. It just doesn’t get tastier than that. And again, lots are going to be outdoors and open for business soon!!!
    • I also love the markets that offer hand made soaps, lotions and other goodies!!
  • Go for a drive!
    • This can sound super corny, and maybe not the best for a bunch of small kids, but I love going on drives with Josh, my hubby. Just going for a drive and talking in the car….man, makes me feel like I’m back in high school!!
    • We are a big Jeep family. The girls actually love going on Jeep rides with us. If you watch my Instagram stories, you know that we go “muddin” a lot, so that’s a little more fun for kids;) Still, I encourage you to take your kids for a drive or try it for a simple, inexpensive date night!!!
Our new Jeep Gladiator!
  • Last, but certainly not least, FLOWER PICKING!!!
    • And just like #1, we’re back to picking our own beautiful treasures!!! I love flower picking just as much, if not more, than I love berry picking!!
    • Sorry if you have a bunch of boys in your house that aren’t fans of this one…but make it a girls’ trip!!!:):)
God’s creation really is beautiful, isn’t it?! This was taken at Rendelman Orchards in Murphysboro, IL!

Real quick before you go….

So those are my top 10 favorite summer outdoor activities!!! I hope that they inspired you to get out and get active with your kiddos this summer:) And I know that we all just had e-learning and that things are a little tense, but as a momma of three adult children and two middle school aged kids, don’t wish away these times. Soak them up. Cherish them. You’ll thank me one day;)
