5 Tips for Decorating Outdoor Spaces

I LOVE decorating my outdoor spaces!! Probably because I just love being outdoors! My little hobby farm is on a gravel road, is about three acres and the nearest “neighbor” is a little over a mile away! I often feel like I’m on my own little island! An island that I get to dress up however I want:) I often walk away from an outside project covered in dirt, and possibly scratches, but always with the proud feeling of a messy kindergartener after art class. That’s what decorating your outdoor spaces is: painting the same cozy feeling you have created inside on a much bigger, outdoor canvas. So today I wanna share with you a couple of tips I’ve learned when decorating those outdoor spaces!:)

This old rusty wheelbarrow literally has a hole in it, but you’d never know with these flowers!! Seriously, flowers make EVERYTHING prettier!
You can see how I used barrels and tins to add levels here on my front porch and mix things up!

My Top 5 Tips for Outdoor Decorating

  1. Add Levels
    1. You can do this by having an assortment of different sized pots/other decor or by setting some things on old barrels or old tins. ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. Make sure stuff is to scale
    1. You don’t want one tiny plant or pot next to a big front door. It will make everything look smaller or bigger than it actually is.
  3. Add small vignettes throughout the yard
    1. This makes your yard like a little treasure hunt of hidden gems to see!
    2. Add a little whimsy in these when you can. A little gnome here. Maybe a gardening spoon there. Just something fun:)
  4. Add lights wherever you can
    1. This can be candles, lanterns or a string of cafe lights! Get creative:)
  5. When all else fails, stick some flowers in it!
    1. Flowers seriously make everything prettier!!

My husband made me this outdoor sink, which I absolutely LOVE!!! I use a mix of levels by setting some things below the sink and above it. Everything is relatively to scale, and it’s an adorable vignette if I do say so myself:)
Again, man, those flowers!!!

We all want our inside spaces to look amazing, but before people even see the inside, they see the outside! We have to make sure that the outside spaces are as inviting and cozy as our inside ones are! As my mom always used to tell me when I had a sour face, the outside is a reflection of the inside;)

I hope these little tips and tricks help you as you begin decorating the outside of your homes this year. I really, really love exterior home decor. So, as always, please reach out here, or any of the social medias, if you have any questions! And remember, when decorating your outdoor spaces especially, a little dirt don’t hurt;) But, if you’re the kind that doesn’t love dirt like me, that’s totally fine! Go check out our shop and grab yourself a gardening apron! And as much as I love playing in the dirt, I don’t like it in my house. I have one of our A Little Dirt Don’t Hurt doormats to make sure all the dirt stays outside where it should;)
