Girls’ Room Redo
Did you know I have 5 kiddos? Yes, 5! I have three (2 boys and a girl) biologically, and then my husband had two children (both girls) when we married. (I lovingly call my stepdaughters my bonus babies:)) My first three children are now *sadly* all grown up. However, that is kinda good because we actually have a really small home. We cannot fit seven people in this house on the regular! My boys shared a room growing up, much to their chagrin. Since they have grown up, my two bonus babies have taken over their room. This room went from a TOTAL little man cave into a tween girl haven! The difference is quite amazing. Even for me! I hope that you can give these before pictures a little grace. They need it. But let’s not waste anymore time! Let’s take a look at my little girls’ room redo!
Before the Redo….
I told you that you wouldn’t believe me!!! This is the room of two boys who were opposed with anything Army and Wii related. (The Wii had just come out when my kids were little, and man, were they obsessed with it!!). I tried to make this room as crash proof as possible. Though, if you can tell from the distressed dresser, I still tried to throw in a little farmhouse touch;)
As much as I HATE looking back at the lack of decor in this room, I can’t help but remember all the sweet memories that were made here. I look at these pictures and remember the boys playing with their little toy army men or playing Rockband on the Wii. And I wouldn’t trade anything about those memories for the world:)
I also think it’s INCREDIBLY important to let kids express their own style through their room decor! Dempsey is my artsy kid, and when she was in middle school she was TOTALLY into the splatter paint look. I didn’t let her splatter her entire room like she wanted, but I did let repaint her room and get a spatter painted comforter, shams and closet doors. It developed a love for decor in her and gave her a sense of ownership over a space in the house, which was really important for her budding 13 year old self. (She, of course, admitted this to me much later;))
After the Redo…
It looks just a little better now, don’t you think?;) I LOVE how this room turned out!!! As you can see, it’s quite the redo! About the only thing that stayed the same as the carpet; however, I want to thank Home Dynamix for the the softest rug in the world!!! Though the carpet is technically still the same, that rug has made a world of a difference.
The Best Part of the Redo…
The centerpiece of the room though is definitely the beds!!!The bed frames came from Walmart. (I’m always a fan of cheap!!) But the ADORABLE comforters and bedskirts are from Beddy’s!!! Have you heard about Beddy’s?! They have changed our life! They are a sheet and comforter all in one. Seriously!!! The fitted sheet (which has heavy duty elastic) and top sheet are sewn into the comforter, you just slip the whole thing on and zip it up!!! It has two smooth zippers on the side that allow you to “make the bed” every morning by just zipping it up. NO MORE FIGHTING OVER MAKING THE BED!!!! My girls love zipping up their beds every morning. So, aside from being ADORABLE, our Beddy’s have saved our mornings and possibly our relationship.
I love Beddy’s so much that they agreed to give us a discount code!!! So ya’ll can get these AMAZING sets (because did I mention they also come with 2 pillowcases and 2 shams?!) for 15% off!!! And they’re already super affordable, so click on the link below or use code SHILOH at checkout and get your kiddos (or you!!!) that adorable, time saving bed set, Sister!!
*disclaimer* I do get a commission from you using my code or link, but I assume you already know that.
The final redo touches…
As you can tell, we repainted the room. We painted it Dove White by Benjamin Moore. But my favorite accessory in this little girls room redo has got to be the silhouettes. We used two different artists for these masterpieces, so I want to thank them both. The large silhouette was done by @von_jet and the smaller ones were done by @cutarts. They are actually my girls’ silhouettes!!! How sweet, right?!
The other last touch was the new dresser. The new dresser is SSSSOOO much better than the old one!!! Believe it or not, I found it at on Facebook marketplace and distressed it. You can see how the technique I use to distress all my furniture here!
My favorite thing about the redo…
My girls love their new room and really feel like this is the their part of the house, which as we’ve already said, is really important to them. I was so glad to give that to them, especially since they are here only on the weekends. I would love to hear about any kid room redos that you have done! I love seeing the transition of kids rooms from toddlers to “big kids” or from “big kids” to teenagers. I love looking at the change that this little girls room redo has brought about. I hope that your redo can bring you and your kiddos as much joy as our has. Happy redo-ing!!!:)
