Simple and Cheap DIY Guide for Raised Garden Beds
One of my FAVORITE projects last summer was making these simple and CHEAP raised garden beds!! They took no time at all, hardly no money at all and saved me a TON of time and energy!! Not to mention that they’re kind pretty;) So today I wanted to show just how simple they are by sharing my DIY guide for raised garden beds! Let’s dig in;)
DSR’s DIY Guide for Raised Garden Beds
- What You’ll Need Per 1 Box:
- (6) 6′ Cedar dog ear fence planks
- (1) 5/8” galvanized screws
- (6) wooden stakes
- But make sure these are thin
- Directions:
- Cut the dog ears off of the end of the fence.
- Cut two of the planks in half.
- Screw one board to wooden stake
- Screw second board into stake.
- Do the same thing thing on each corner and in the middle on both sides of the garden box.
- We added the extra stake to the middle after the ones we built last year. Once it had rained several times it started to add pressure to the soil and expanded the side boards. We needed a little extra support. ๐
And that’s it!! Seriously. We went to Lowe’s for the cedar planks which cost less than $3/plank (I KNOW RIGHT?!!) and then we picked up the rest from our local hardware store. In no time at all we were able to get these boxes in the ground and full of seeds!!!
My old garden (which I still take care of and grow things in) is quite a ways from our spigot. We live on three acres, so things get a little spread out here on this hobby farm! But because it was so far away, taking water to and from it was KILLING my back!! (For those who are new here, I had back surgery in November 2019.) These new garden boxes are right beside the spigot making it MUCH easier on me:) HALLELUJAH!!!!
Another great thing about these is that they are customizable. If you don’t have 6 feet of space, chop em down, Sister! You’re already shaping them, so feel free to just use this as a template when making your own:)
I truly love my garden boxes. I planted mine right beside my patio, and the atmosphere has completely changed. I now feel like I’m at a fancy garden party when I sit on my patio with my coffee or tea.:) I actually loved them so much that I made three more this year! Pictures of those will be coming soon. Again, thanks for stopping by Down Shiloh Road!!!:)
Updated photos 2023: The garden boxes are still holding up!! In fact, we’ve made more boxes!!
